What started as an accidental 21-page story in the fifth grade is now my proudest achievement. Prompted to write a fantasy narrative for a class assignment, my eleven-year-old brain began to concoct all sorts of ideas, consumed by the magic of my favorite things at that time: Disney and Harry Potter. The scribbled words became an adventure full of princesses, unicorns, fairies, and enchanted kingdoms. When it was my turn to read my narrative to the class, I had to stop halfway through for recess. I insisted on finishing my read-aloud the next day.
Fast forwarding a few years to the pandemic, with nothing but time on my hands, I picked up the draft that my mom had kept safe. Along with my parents’ support and encouragement, I went back and began writing. I filled the plot holes, added new obstacles, and fresh settings while staying true to my young self’s tale. After a year of editing and revising, the original short story had unfolded into a classic “Hero’s Journey” of 100 pages, coming together as The Lilac Ring. In November of 2022, I self-published my book on Amazon.
My novella is an endeavor to give back to my community through creativity. The writing was published through my own 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Eunoia Inspirations International. All of the proceeds from my book sales are being donated to various charities in support of children, such as UNICEF, Rajani Spark Foundation, Girl Up, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and more, in hopes of inspiring the youth to pursue their creativity.
